Hello,
I'm brand new to the web-site today.
I have a 1975 Fiat 124 Spyder that I've owned about 19 years. I bought it for $400, it had two blown engines, one in the car and one in the trunk.
The body wasn't very straight either. I bought it with the intention of installing a small block Chevy drivetrain; I didn't know if it was going to
be a success, I didn't want to hack up a nice car, so this one was perfect for the job. It took about 2 years to get done. I had to move the firewall back about 12 inches, cut the shock towers out of the front, the transmission tunnel. This didn't leave much meat left, so I built a tube frame with roll bar using a Camaro front suspension from a donor car. I drove the car for the next 15 years or so to work everyday; about an 80 mile round trip commute.
I have put about 250,000 miles on it since the conversion. The car has been very reliable, only broke one time; an alternator mounting bolt sheared off on my way to work one night. That motor pretty much wore out, so I have had to build a replacement. It now has a 406 small block that I added L-98 Corvette aluminum heads and electronic fuel injection. It makes it more drivable.
I am currently in the process of repainting it. It sure has accumulated a lot of rust, parking it near the ocean for 15 years. It's taking a lot longer than I thought. When I get it painted this summer, I'll post some pictures.
Thanks for having me.
Mike

wow, that's a pretty good story! A qtr of a million miles is impressive; you must have a long drive to work. We'll be anxious to see some pix when you can post them
