Thought I'd post something simple and possibly helpful.
I had the original muffler hangers on a newly upgraded exhaust because they looked fine when I originally checked them. They weren't cracked at all so I kept them.
I didn't realize until I bought new ones that the old ones had stretched almost an inch, which was creating some contact points around the rear end during certain maneuvers.
I just replaced them with a new set and all the sounds are gone. The occasional rattle that I was starting to accept as a part of old car ownership was actually something I didn't' have to put up with.
If you've got original muffler hangers and some sounds coming from back there, a new set might help, and they don't cost an arm and a leg.

Re: muffler hangers - a big help
+1 on getting new hangers when installing a new exhaust.
I just put on AR's performance exhaust and completely recommend it.
Great sound, easy to install, and good performance.
But my muffler hangers were stretched also to the point of unwanted contact by the muffler.
Getting new ones are a small expense compared to the exhaust system but necessary for it to work correctly.
