Transmission Rebuild
I am wanting to have my transmission rebuilt this winter on my 85. I am thinking of putting in a lightened flywheel. I know Mark has an alum one for about $400. Any opinions on others? I have always tried to do an upgrade when doing a repair. Any other things I should do at this point?

May want to do a driveshaft/driveline rebuild, AR has a kit that has a new guibo, carrier bearing and U-joints.

Re: Transmission Rebuild
I had Mark's lightened flywheel put in and the performance difference is tremendous. Much quicker acceleration. Worth the money for the LFW. One thing I noticed is that deceleration was not noticeably changed, which surprised me, but it could just be my perception. I would highly recommend putting in an LFW if the transmission is coming out for any reason ( I had the clutch done at the same time), but it is an enormous amount of work to do if just putting in the flywheel alone. Do the rear seal too.

It's the way to go. This is the one I installed:

Major improvement with no noticeable downside.

Re: Transmission Rebuild
This one is heavier than Mark's, 14 lb vs 9.5 lb, but cost over twice as much. Hmmm.

Re: Transmission Rebuild
So it looks like Jason Miller has other lightened flywheels. He has a steel one that is to be used with a Tilton racing clutch, which is 7.1 lbs.

And then he has one that is alum one that is 9.5 lbs, but is says it is no longer in stock.

Anyone have any experience with these?

Re: Transmission Rebuild
So I think I have decided to go with Mark's flywheel, but have a couple of questions. Is the OEM clutch comparable to a Valeo? What is the purpose of the taller transmission mount for a 5speed?
