Did you replace the springs in the pressure plate assembly and then put the steel doughnut plate in backwards? Having trouble picturing the whole assembly installed backwards but possibly I don't get out often enough.timspider wrote:update: I had the pressure plate in backwards, dangit.

Great that you finally got it straight!
Re: clutch cable stretching?
I got a new oem clutch with pressure plate, or disk, or whatever you call the flat disc. The disc has a green dot on one side- the only indication of any kind i could find on it.
Nothing else indicating how it situates.
So I googled and read several threads and found one that mentions exactly how the green dot should be situated- in hindsight, I should have posted the question here. The answer I found elsewhere was wrong, and that cost me tons of time and money.

Ok thats the clutch/friction disk. The pressure plate has the springs and cover that bolts to the flywheel over the friction disk along with the fingers that engage the throwout bearing.timspider wrote:I got a new oem clutch with pressure plate, or disk, or whatever you call the flat disc. Makes a better picture in my mind now.
I am facing similar as the "New Clutch" that was installed by a friend of the previous owner of the Diesel Spider is at the end of the adjustment cable already so shortly I will be doing a similar investigation. There is a possibility since we do not know 100% the exact year and model of the donor car that the engine came from that the wrong clutch and pressure plate was installed.

Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll sail right through it. Be well.
