trip recorder not working

Question about a 1981 FI Spider 2000 with 36k miles. My trip recorder hasn't worked since before I owned the car. The speedo & odometer work perfectly. I can turn the reset knob and make all the numbers turn around. It just won't advance on it's own when driving the car. The owner manual says to never turn the knob counter clockwise or when the car is moving. Maybe the po did that. What happens? Did that cause this problem? Can I take it apart & repair it? I just took my clock apart, repaired the gear for the set knob & made new glass. It looks new and works perfectly now.

Palo Alto Speedometer is an excellent shop, quick, reasonable repair prices.

While I appreciate the Palo Alto suggestion ( I called them & they were very nice & helpful about how to repair the clock), I was hoping to find someone on this forum who is knowledgeable about the odometer. Anyone???

I have the other issue, my odometer doesn't turn, but the trip does.

Perhaps these problems are related. Between the two of us we have one working unit!
