What is this relay?

Post by launieg »

I cannot figure out what that metal encased "relay" is (if it is one) behind the ECU under the dash. Today, when driving, it started "ticking" at me, so I unplugged it at the harness connector a few inches away, and it stopped bugging me, but I cannot see that disconnecting it affected anything! It has a diode mounted on it. Mine is an '81 FI, if that matters. I would love to know what this thing is, but nothing I can find identifies it. Help!

Thanks AdrianS. My wipers were not working anyway, so I did not realize that might be it. I'll look into it.
