noise from rear end

Post by red107 »

Pulled the ole girl out of storage today. Weather here in East Carolina is very nice. As I drove off I heard a clunking noise coming from the rear end/driveshaft. Like something was loose. I got underneath and couldn't find anything loose. I live less than a mile from our storage unit so I drove her to the house. As I shifted to 2nd on up the noise is not there. Its only in 1st gear. After another inspection back at the house I couldn't find anything loose. I went on another drive and again no clunking noise only when starting out in 1st gear. Any Ideas?

U-joint?

Any noise/clunk when you go from decell to accel in other gears. Ujoint end moving in its cap.

Thanks guys, The drive shaft center bearing was replaced recently. I was leaning towards bushing in the trailing arms and pan hard bar. But the U-joint could be the culprit. I will look at all of those. Thanks again.
