Rad Flush

Post by punes »

I emptied my coolant and changed the rad hoses and temp sensor, bled the system and lower hose gets hot and fan comes on

The question is it seems that I emptied more coolant (that was discarded) than new coolant that was added, is this normal? I believe that I have no or little air lock because all is functioning well.

if you haven't turned the heater on, the core may have air in it and is the reservoir full?

hopefully you remembered to jack up the nose of the car and are burping all the air out of the head... do you still have a water choke, and did you remember to pull one of those water lines at your carburetor to help air to escape?

I did jack up the car but it didnt work that well....
I then added a prestone valve on the heater hose leading into the head and that really helped
I dont have a water choke...
the bottle I have not noted...but I have been topping up the coolant as I drive it locally...

My heat has been left on and it works...I am a little sketchy about the heater controls...the only way I get heat is if the 2 left leavers are in the middle...any other combination will not give me heat.

do you still think there is air in the system? Does the lower hose and fan turning on mean that coolant is making it all the way around therefore absence of air?

I think the Prestone cooling system "T" should be installed on ALL spiders when the cooling system is drained. It makes bleeding the system so much easier, no jacking up, no squeezing hoses, no filling tiny tiny hoses, and its a more accurate way of judging the coolant level than the rad cap. If you removed the heater core or have a faulty or stuck heater valve the "T" fitting is a must. Best $5 ever spent on the fiat.

It's also good for its intended puropse: backflushing the cooling system.
