Just wanted to say hello to everyone.
I just purchased a 1978 fiat 124 spider and located this site while looking for usefull information on the web.
My brother owned a 124 spider when 20 plus years ago and I always like the lil critter, so I bought one for myself to play with. anyhow Hello all.
OK i'll try the picture thing, I can do it on the fishing forums but don't know if it will work here?
OK that didn't work. what site do you guys use to process your photos? thanks Ed

'78 is a great car, Ed. Is it stock... or does it have mods besides the wheels?
welcome to the site.

Re: New member fiat spider. Florida
The wheels are actually just hubcaps (came with 6? 2 more in trunk?)... she looks to be all stock. the last owner had her for 25 years and had all paperwork for any and all repairs (all done at verious shops). like I said she looks stock, I also have a 73 vette and I know a heck of a lot more about boat motors and V8's than I do about this lil car.mbouse wrote:'78 is a great car, Ed. However I do have a shop manual for her and I'm not at all afraid of getting my hands dirty....
first things first, she needs an entire new brake system....
Now should I go stock or do you guys have any better ideas. any info will be greatly helpful and appreciated...
(I know my spelling sucz)

Welcome fellow Floridiot! Judging by the barn and oak tress I am guessing Ocala, Gainesville area? Great car by the way. I used to have a 79 I restored and now have an 82 and by reading this forum you will find all the really cool guys have 82's. I also had a 68 Vette as well as a few other fun rides and while the Spiders are no classic Corvette they are loads of fun and have a much different feel to them. Having a Vette you will probably enjoy many of the design aspects of your little Italian hottie both for the looks and performance. She will be way cooler inside and just think 4 fewer u joints and no cracking leaf spring!

Hey Gunsmith, thanks for the welcome, yes the Ocala area, good guess. As for the 78 fiat, yeah I know it not as cool as some others. At first I wanted to purchase an 82, but when I found out that was the prefured fiat for the rainbow parades, I figured why waste my mancard so I just setteled for the 78 as it looked nice and didn't have the girlie curves the newer models had
I'm sure your 82 is a nice lil car and you probly look somewhat manly driving it But Please, Just take this little bit of advise, lose the scarf OK LOL (all in jest)

When ever I pick up my freakishly tall friend 6'7" on the way to the range I stick a rainbow sticker on the car just so people will stare at him. We must look like quite the couple, he laughs about it when he's done swearing at me. Fortunately my wife still finds it funny but now that he just broke up with his girlfriend I might hold back on those gags for awhile.
The reason there are two spare hubcaps in the trunk is that they come off easy. I got tired of buying new ones for my 79 so I just broke down and put aluminum rims on it, well worth it. You have some mighty nice driving for a Fiat in your neck of the woods. I get up there a few times a year to go off roading with the Rover club.
