Need your input....advise????

Post by 81autospider »

I have a really nice 5.0 FI block and an AOD A/T...I was thinking of installing this into a older style sport coupe 2 seater...or use it to build a rat rod...I am a talented craftsman with metal fab skills and could build my own chassis and frame if need be...but thought it would be better to install in an older body with a vin # and save time not building a frame and hassling with the DMV...I also have a Jag rear end I could use...I am not in a hurry to build, but would like to hear from a collective group of enthusiasts that might know of a suitable donor that might work out with little hassle...I can't recall the car but remember seeing a coupe at the parts yard that had the whole front bonnet open up and if I can recall it had a lengthy engine bay...maybe it was a inline six but not sure...any advise would be great...thanks for read 'n 8)

I've seen small block Fords in MGs, Healeys, TR6s, Fiat Spiders, 914s, almost anything that rolls. I think I'd consider a coupe that doesn't have great desireability or collectability. That way you'll have something completely unique (think about that Rambler/Ferrari show car from last year) and won't incur the wrath of any purist group

I do understand what you mean...there are clubs that really do frown upon replacing parts with nothing but OEM stuff...if you bolt on a after market item, then prepare for the wrath...I truly would like to do something unique and different...all the cars you have mentioned have been done....though a MG can be bought up for next to nothing...unless I find something similar, I will keep looking.

I say put that V8 in the spider and change the suspension and drive train to handle it, put tons of money and time into it until you almost have it complete and then sell it to me for a song so I can finish it. That way I can tool around in a V8 Spider and if anyone whines about the mods I can just blame it all on the previous owner. :D
