Can some one show me the tool you need to take out the tie rods on a 79 spider?

you are looking for a pickle fork. search for it and you will see various versions of it on line. Harbor freight has a few types.
The ball joint separator looks like it would be difficult to use in tight places.

I like this tool from Harbor Freight

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarte ... 99849.html

I tighten it up till there is a good tension on it and then hit the end of the tool with a hammer.

It's hard to do this without ripping the boots from the friction of the pickle fork. Try lubing the fork with silicone grease. You can buy new boots separate from new tie rod ends.
