We were in Italy a few years ago and rented an Alpha with a 1.8l turbo diesel with a 6 speed transmission. The thing went like stink! Mind you, it was a little disconcerting on the AutoStrada, doing 160kms being passed by trucks...

I used to own a 2.4ltr Alfa 159 JTD... was absolutely fantastic.. fast, smooth, and great mpg.

**WARNING: This car is subject to a factory recall and has not yet had the recall work completed. You are HIGHLY ADVISED to have the recall work done prior to attempting the drive this. The inverter water pump and the steering shaft are both the subjects of the recall. (Please, whatever you do, post a youtube video of you taking this in to your local Toyota dealer for the recall work!)

That Isuzu diesel and the newer diesel engines are not exactly in the same league.
