We were in Italy a few years ago and rented an Alpha with a 1.8l turbo diesel with a 6 speed transmission. The thing went like stink! Mind you, it was a little disconcerting on the AutoStrada, doing 160kms being passed by trucks...

I used to own a 2.4ltr Alfa 159 JTD... was absolutely fantastic.. fast, smooth, and great mpg.

That Isuzu diesel and the newer diesel engines are not exactly in the same league.
