PPI

Post by stpher »

Hi,

My daughter has moved to Las Vegas and is looking at a 2005 Ford escape,

I know, I tried to talk her into an Alfa but she really likes going off roading. It is at a Chrysler dealership Chapman Chrysler Jeep. Does anyone know of an honest shop that can do a PPI for her. If not, it may be a good excuse for me to fly down and do it myself.

Thanks.

I guess it depends on how one defines off-roading, but an Escape? I think speed bumps are considered off-roading for an Escape no?

Tell her to look for a 68 Scout or an early Toyota Land Cruiser! :D

Rick: Since you'll be at a MOPAR dealer anyway....

Crawl under the Escape, then locate a Liberty or Nitro of the same vintage. Check out the control arms and suspension pieces. I agree with Alan: speed bumps are "off-roading" to an Escape, and stamped steel vs forged suspension pieces will highlight the difference. Nothing wrong with an Escape for road driving in changing conditions (nice to have 4 driven by 4).

We had a fully "Trail Rated" Liberty for a few years (Pat's car). Traded it because the 1st gen seats became seriously uncomfortable for her back. 2nd gen Libertys/Nitros have different seats. After 7 years with a Pacifica, Pat went back to Jeep, and flat loves her GC Summit. We don't off road (unless we're wearing our hiking boots), but having the strength there in lousy weather (a feature, not a bug, in WI) makes for a more relaxing trip.

All that said, if her heart's set on an Escape, you may have little choice! In any event, enjoy the trip!

She/you ever consider a Subaru. I've had a couple of the older models and I took those in the mountains where loggers would not go. Newer ones have more power now.
