Trailing Arm bushing

Post by Mdpond1 »

So I removed the trailing arms from my 1978 spider media blasted, and then painted. I had a set of poly bushings for all 4 trailing arms and the Panhard rod. Every thing seems to look like it will fit except the long (lower) trailing arms which there is about a 1.5 to 2mm diff. I spoke to a rep and they told me that the trailing arms can get stretched out and once I tighten up the bolt with the poly in, it should fill the gap. I don't feel comfortable with that answer, so I thought I would ask.

The current ID of the trailing arm is 44mm the poly bushing is 42.5mm. (makes for a lot of slop)

I was going to order a set of stock rubber bushings from AR, but was wondering if I should get new lower arms?
any insight would be great
thanks,
mark

What did you come up with? We are running into the same problem, we've only removed one lower and the bushing seems way to small plus the sleeve for the bolt will not fit in the bushing.... We got our poly bushings from Vicks..

I bought a full set of rubbers from AR. The lower arm bushings fit a little better, but in think I will need to replace the lower arms down the road. The uppers and pan rod all fit nice and snug. Had to ream out one bushing on the pan rod to fit it on the bolt. I did cut a coil out of my rear springs while I had it all a part. Only to find out my rear end shifted about a 1/4 inch. May look in to shorting the pan rod by 1/4 to even out the rear end. Going to call Vic and see if I can swap out the polys for some other much needed parts :)

ran into exact problem. I ended up just not using the sleeve. It hasnt failed in a month or so. But, Ill probably take them off eventually. Im not 100% happy with the bushings myself.

I ordered a set of rear suspension bushings, the kit came with 10 bushings. 4 of the bushings are larger and are designed to fit in the lower trailing arms. The other 6 bushings are for the panhard rod and the upper trailing arms. I replaced those bushings this past weekend, and I cut one coil out of the rear springs. The height looks good in the rear, will do the same for the front springs.
