aluminum gearbox pan

Post by TX82FIAT »

New trans oil pan ordered from Germany. Holds more oil and keeps trans cooler by about 28 degrees according to my temp gun.

Not really. Made my own gasket as there is more flat metal to metal surface area. The gentleman in Germany if interested.

They are a little pricey but I think worth it. Markus is a great guy to deal with.

How much was shipping to the U.S.? Was there a customs tax?

Were you having an over heating issue with your gear oil?

Markus was able to do the transaction via paypal and i think shipping was something like $40 dollars U.S. Took about three weeks to show up. He sold it as a personal sale and if excise taxes were included they were not itemized as he told me how much it would be shipped.

As far as the transmission running hot. All spider I have owned push some heat up from the gearbox that is a little higher than expected for the owner. A little insulation down helps keep the cabin cool. However, the transmission IMHO is still inherently hot. Transmissionis not overheating. This hot running condition may very well be a contributing factor to the wear and tear on our transmissions. More GL-1 in the gear box and aluminum fins keep the gearbox cooler. While it extends down further from the gear box it is no closer to the ground than the crossmember.

I actually ordered two since the shipping was the same in the event I ever parted with this Spider and purchased a new one. With that said, I do think i have an input or pilot bearing issue that the new gearbox pan will not fix or help. But it does run cooler.
