it is a 1976 scout II ...project glacier my roomate calls it .... 2 plus years and counting .... it will be a quite sturdy and capable camping / exploring rig .... lifted ... tires... comfy ... ... the list is extensive ... the area i live in actually has quite good road systems to get you out there ... excited to see the spots that the scout will now open up past those roadsDaniel wrote:Hey 81spidermatt what kind of international do you have? a friend of mine used to race one off road of course.

Thanks!! At this point, a year and a half into it, I am getting really excited about the final product! I have been thinking about this build for 20 years and it is coming out exactly as I wanted. Just crossing my fingers I can make it run and not just look good.
Re: Edit... Resto mod coming together
Quick update,
This is the first time I have side mounted an engine for a rebuild and I have to say, it is fantastic!
I stood it up on end and installed the clutch
Then spun it round and installed my tensioner
Then I got my new pistons installed on the con rods
A little progress every evening and I'll have this thing all bolted up to the trans and on my cart over the weekend.

Ha, I guess I picked the right color if I was going for the "old Italian iron".
It's painted Csaba, gunmetal metallic.

The engine looks great, I was wondering about your pulley alignment compared to mine. I am using the 65 amp alt on the passenger side, I had to use the inside pulley track.....see photo. Are you using the 95 amp? It just looks like your water pump is using a shallower pully.
I like the side mount motor stand!

Wow!! Look at all that sexy red stuff!! I had a chat with Beek today and we came to the conclusion that every little bit of red on the car adds horsepower!! Beek says chrome does too!!
Looks great Pat!! But! If you really wanted to go fast, you would have matched that paint! What did it say? 640HP ? See? Proof!!
In any case, I have a middle groove main pulley and it looks like you are running a first groove. The water pump pulley corresponds in both our cases. I think I did my research and ordered what I needed but to be honest, I might have the wrong stuff
I will hang my alt tomorrow, yes a 95, and see if I have to change out one or some pulleys...

See? I told ya!!!
Ok, anyone have a 38 ADL for sale?
"But then again, running IDFs is like buying frustration. Especially on anything bigger than the 1608. They are going to run like crap 99% of the time, and then you convince yourself its running great and you tell others how great they are. This is what we call the acceptance phase. At some point down the line you ride in someone's car without IDFs, say a fuel injected Spider or one with a big ADF, and you put the IDFs on ebay. We call this the freedom phase."
I'm heading straight to the freedom phase!!

I would paint the machined surfaces that will not have anything attached, as they will rust unpainted.SoFlaFiat wrote:Ha, I guess I picked the right color if I was going for the "old Italian iron".

Or are you planning on your engine leaking enough oil to keep rust at bay?

That Hungarian humor!!
Yep, I'm depending on lots of oil...
Actually Csaba, I painted the whole thing (except front and back) then polished the machined surfaces and used high temp clear on the whole thing except the front and back. After it is completely assembled, I will spritz the machined areas on the front and back with INOX which should help keep the rust at bay. In a year, I'll do a write up on the use of Inox, after I know whether it works as advertised.
