Re: normal heat range
if you are talking centigrade then it is too high, if you are talking farenheit then it is too low

Re: normal heat range
My understanding is that it should engage between 190*F-195*F
There are lower temp components that can be used

Re: normal heat range
The point of engagement for the fan should be on the "0" of the "190" and the point of disengagement is straight up and down, vertically oriented on the "9". It is common for the fan to run continuously when stopped on a warm day - and when doing so it should keep the needle on the "9".

Re: normal heat range
I think I fixed it --seen a post about massaging the water hoses to get all the air out. Even though it was not that much, it worked --holding 190 now----I learned a lot from this site

1978 spider 124- running hot around 225--changed both the thermostat and radiator sending switch--the fan will still not come on--however the fan works when I short it out so that is not the problem---does the two temp sending unit in the valley have anything thing to do with it and are they both the same when I want to change them out

Re: normal heat range
your temp switch in the bottom of the radiator can either be bad or the bottom of your radiator is still too cold. An infrared thermometer would tell you. The sensors in the head are not the same. One runs the gage and the other the idiot light.
Re: normal heat range
you are right--I used the infrared on the outside of the switch and it showed around 180 while the temp gauge in dash states 225--do not know why the heat is not getting to the radiator switch area
