I'm in the process of getting ready to install some new steel braided brake hoses, and a new master cylinder.. I happened to be on Amazon, and remembered that I needed new washers... I found these and ordered them (Amazon Prime, free shipping!): Earl's 177101ERL 10mm Copper Crush Washers Pkg of 10
Here's what they look like compared to one ordered from AR. In both pictures, the AR one is on the right:
The inner diameter looks perfect. The AR one is a bit wider overall (outer diameter). The Earl one is probably about twice as thick though!
Would you guys use these? I don't think the outer diameter would mean much, but the thickness worries me some.

Re: Brake washer question...
Thanx guys...
I have a couple from AR, but not enough for all 4 wheels. I was Amazon and decided to take a chance. Rather than order a bunch from AR and paying $8 for shipping when they cost $5, I have free shipping with Amazon.

Free TWO day shipping!!! Go PRIME!!! I think I have saved $1000 in shipping alone over the last couple years
Re: Brake washer question...
Ouch!
Where's the love y'all? I need to buy my little girl some new shoes for school... Amazon won't help us with that.
Actually, if time permits and / or if someone emails us, we generally will accommodate shipping via US post on small items. A few washers would likely go 1st class mail.
That said we recently had to replenish our washer stock and the new ones are in fact thicker. The original supply was part of a dealership buyout ... and as I recall we had a couple pounds of them initially.
JTTY.. I use Amazon all the time.... We'd run out of prnter ink without it

Re: Brake washer question...
You can also anneal those crush washers in a pinch when you can't seem to get a new one in time.
Just hang the old ones on a hangar and heat them up cherry red with a propane torch.
Let them air cool and once they have cooled you can install them.

Heh. Normally I dont blink at the shipping costs.. But when I'm ordering $5 worth of stuff that weighs a few ounces, and the shipping is like $8, I start thinking about it. If I was ordering other stuff, I would have just added it. As it was, I was ordering a bunch of stuff on Amazon already. Otherwise I would have called.
Ramzi, I'm a software developer, I might be able to help you guys add more shipping options on the website. Web stuff isn't my forte, but I can do it in a pinch. PM me if interested.

They should be quenched in water while still cherry red.RoyBatty wrote:You can also anneal those crush washers in a pinch when you can't seem to get a new one in time.

Water quenching might make them too soft.131 wrote:They should be quenched in water while still cherry red.RoyBatty wrote:You can also anneal those crush washers in a pinch when you can't seem to get a new one in time.

Air cooling has always worked for me.
