I finally got around to replacing my rear shocks today. And a big thank you for the post and tips! I'm sure it went a lot faster and with a lot less cussin' because of your help!

Nice picture tutorial, Jay! It will make this job easy when it comes time for me to replace the rears.

Re: Removing rear shocks
I have done a couple of picture tutorials on other forums, and they are a magnificent way for us to present "how to" information to others. Build threads with pictures are also very good, but do not organize the information as well.
Please keep up the great work! I'll try to add some of my own picture tutorials as I get to different projects too,...I've got a pair of great cameras for that kind of work.
Todd,...again!

Re: Removing rear shocks
I'm hoping to do mine this summer at some point if other things don't keep getting in the way. Great guide to replacing the rear shocks. Might have to pull out all my stuff and paint it while I'm in there. I like that idea. Do the shocks come with all the rubber or does that need to be ordered separately? Anyone recommend replacing any other pieces while in there? I assume the caps don't come in and out.

Re: Removing rear shocks
My understanding is that all the pieces (rubber included) come with the shocks

Re: Removing rear shocks
4uall, you say jack drivers side to lower passenger. At that point, which do you unbolt? I assume the driver since it is compressed? Then you lower it and remove the shock. Is this correct or do I have it backwards.
Second question: d
4uall, did you remove the brake line?

Re: Removing rear shocks
i did it a different way the side that is raised lowers the opposite side, i remove the lower side then switch
think of a seesaw, /
your way would work however, possible danger with compressed spring
i did not remove the brake line either time, guess i got lucky

Re: Removing rear shocks
Nice! Your jack stand is in the standard jack spot right? Looking forward to replacing these.
Re: Removing rear shocks
All done. Very easy. But I need to tighten my panhard bolt. Anyone know the torque spec on that? Does it matter?
