hood latch

Post by minimike »

My hood which used to lock closed from dropping it from about a 3 foot height, now bounces on the latch mechanism.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and what the fix, adjustment might be. It looks like the pin on the hood is a bit loose, and maybe bouncing off the latch. But the mounting is not loose. the horizontal pin has some movement. It can spin.

Any ideas?

your latch lock is probably closed. take a screwdriver and pry it open. Someone may have to pull the handle while you do it. All will be well.

with the hood open, can you snap the clasp open and shut to make sure it isnt binding up. It doesnt take much junk to make the clasp not work. If that is okay then, drop the hood slowly as it comes to rest on the clasp to see how everything lines up. The alignment has to be pretty precise for everything to work right. If the alignment looks ok, loosen the clasp and raise it up has high as the adjustment allows and see if the hood latches okay. If that works, then start lowering the clasp until you get the fit good.

got it adjusted. Also oiled the spring bar at front of hood at bushing/pivots. Seems the points were dry with gunk, and also the bonnet might have moved a tad.
