I have dismantled my first transmission
And I am stumped on the reassembly. The circlips
Do not have the groove thickness to allow the circlip
Install over the washer. Do I need the special tools and a press
Or is there somewhere to send it that can take
Of the install.
One is on the input shaft while the 2nd one
Is on the main shaft on the input end.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Harvey
Transmission circlips and spring washers on input and main s
Re: Transmission circlips and spring washers on input and main s
Beek showed me, just today, that you don't need a press. Maybe we can get him to chime in but it just takes tapping the clip in place against the pressure of the spring.
Beek can explain that a lot better than me!!

hopefully you did not "spring" the clip when removing it. if you did, buy a new clip.
there is a special tool for installation (besides beer). i dont use it though. the tool that is.
place the new cir-clip as far down as you can with cir-clip pliers, then use a punch, and you can hit the punch with a hammer at a 45 degree angle on the side of the clip, it will overcome the spring washer, in that area and the clip will set under the lip as it is supposed to. do this all the way around the clip, then use your pliers in reverse, and make sure the ends of the clip are pinched together as they should be. it would be much easier to show you then describe it this way. you may call me if i can assist
