Jack and Toolkit Mounting

Post by RRoller123 »

It is ridiculous sometimes how the simplest things can be so complicated. the jack in my 80 obviously sits in the right rear wheel well, and I would like to put the toolkit on top of it like is in this picture: (took this from someone here, not sure who)

Image

Now apparently this is not factory, so I can't seem to get a long enough strap without some significant work and head scratching to get it just right. And I am told that the toolkit mounts in the LEFT rear wheel well, but I see no possible place or mounting hardware location for it:

But I do see this support bracket that comes down from the top. Anyone know what this is for?

To make matters more complicated, the 79 Owners Manual shows the toolkit shoved under the jack on the right wheel well side, which seems ridiculous.

LOL I recently bought it and just sent it back. It is too short, will hold ONLY the jack in the right wheel well position. Won't hold the toolkit too. Needs to be more than twice as long.

As I recall the hard plastic tool kits were not held by the same strap as the jack. Only the soft vinyl tool kits were held that way.

Nope. The strap held both the jack and the toolkit.

So we need to find (or somehow jerry rig) a longer strap. I suppose there is a simple way to maybe attach 2 of the shorter ones together? That might look a little wacky though.

Bumping this.

1.) Anyone know where the longer strap that will hold both the jack and hard boxed toolkit can be sourced? (as in the picture below)

2.) Anyone know how the hard boxed toolkit is supposed to mount in the Driver's side rear wheel well? Either solution is acceptable. Pictures of my Driver's side wheel well are below. I don't see any way that the hard boxed toolkit mounts in there. (I prefer to have the hard box kit mounted on top of the jack with a longer strap, but if they came out of the factory with the jack on right and rigid toolkit on left, that is ok too.)

Might be interesting to see if someone can measure the strap length on their jack & toolkit that work.

On my '81, the strap laid flat measured 6 3/4" from outside edge of metal loop to outside edge of metal loop. I have an OE hard plastic tool box, but no jack  so I can't tell you if my strap is the right length. If I find a reasonably priced jack, I'll let you know.

On the earlier Spiders the tool kit mounts on the left wheel well with a rubber strap.
