Post by bsharp »

I have a 78 fiat 124 with an oil leak around where the manual trans hooks to the motor on the drivers side but I can not see everything umber the carb.. Don't appear to be tranny fluid. Anyone have this problem or idea

3 common areas to check are 1) valve cover gasket, 2) Cam box gasket, and 3) Cam shaft cover plate (on cam box but next to firewall). Also check any hoses that come from the crankcase back up to the carb/intake as they may be loose or perished.

I have the same problem on my '78 but on the passenger side. It appears to be the main seal. Had my mechanic look at it and he confirmed it. Mine is not to the point of crisis he said to just watch it that was 3,000 miles ago and it is no worse. I do have a leak around the passenger side can cover on the inside front even though I put on a new gasket. I just tighten down a little every now and then. Never seen a euro car that doesn't leak some where.
