I changed the differential seal on my '72 Spider.
The old seal was seated flush with the diff housing.
The new seal sticks out about 1/16" or so.
It us uniform and seated fully.
Does this mean I have the wrong seal?
I know there are two sizes.
Also, the flange was scored pretty good in the sealing area.
Normal wear but rough.
If the new seal leaks, what is the remedy?
Can I change the flange out?
Any other idea?
I found this video from another post helpful.

And I did put sealant on the pinion nut threads.
So if it does leak, I know it is the seal.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Right Differential Seal?
The difference between the two seal is 0.2mm at the inside diameter, so for all practical purposes they are interchangeable.
Not sure why it would be standing proud of the diff, but at least the rubber lip is seated on an unused area of the flange, so the chances of the worn area ruining it are less.

Re: Right Differential Seal?
Awesome!
I did check on her this morning and the floor was nice and clean underneath.
One thing I did was use teflon tape on the drain plug.
It set it deeper and I think it is better sealed.
I am not going to mess with it unless it starts leaking again.
My Father's Day present to myself is to put my Spider on the ground for the first time in 6 months.
Maybe just a nice drive around the block.......
Happy Father's Day to All!
