Help!!!
I just bought a 79 Fiat Spider from an auction and there are no keys! I was told I can't remove the ign switch without a key and that the ign switch key is different from the doors and trunk key! Also, is there anyway to get into the trunk with out a key>???
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sheldon

Hmmmmmm....."alternative proocedures" Interesting... *evil grin*mbouse wrote:check your email for alternative procedures, as well as sources for key blanks.....a thing your locksmith may not stock.
Anyway, I was going to offer to pop them open for you since I have some background in locksmithing, but you're quite far.
If you are interested in learning, and you're positive it's your own car (LoL) I can give you some info on getting into them yourself. he he he
On a related note, ignition switch removal was last week....
I posted a question regarding the removal of the ignition switch about two weeks ago, and everyone was very helpful - I am sure you can find the string that gives you the answer on that, if you need it. Good luck. For the record, a new switch, with key, ran around $150.

The trunk key is no problem for a locksmith to duplicate from the lock, but the ignition key may be a different matter. I have a 70 that came without a key and the locksmith told me he'd have to remove the switch in order to make a key. With the steering wheel locking mechanism, it's impossible to remove the switch without messing it up. Someone posted that the ignition key code is stamped inside the back of the switch but I have no idea on how to disassemble it to see, especially while standing on your head, wedged under the dash! Good luck.
