New Spider owner RI 1967 124 1800

Well,

I found a 1976, 124 1800 shes been off the road for some time, intact, stock, usual rust, frame seems to be ok, gotta get a closer inspection. I removed the plugs, put tranny fluid in the cylidners and let it sit 24 hrs, went out this am and gave her a lil help with a wrench and she turned over by hand. since shes not bound solid, I will drain fliuds and refill, no spark at this point, pref owner said they used to go out and start her every few weeks, then it wouldnt start. I will start with the usual condenser points, and work my way from there. I also have a '82 x/19 FI AC, that i had planned on getting on the road, but I feel theres just too much rust unless it was taken down and rebuilt, but it has a great motor in it. some of my questions are would the timing belt that i had bought as a spare for the x/19 work on the 124 also alt, master brake cyl, and other componets, and if all else fails and the 124's motor is just worn out, would the x 1/9 motor basicly bolt in, also hoping the FI wouldnt get in the way of the hood, seems to be on the side more than on top of the motor. I am not a fiat master mech, just an old wrench turner. and yea, il get some pictures!!!!!!

Welcome to the form Jack. Good luck with the Spider. Nice call letting us know you'd post pictures, sounds like you know we'd be asking!
I'm sure there are people here who will be able to answer your engine swap questions. Me, I don't have a clue.

no, the various parts you asked about are different between the X and Spider and the motor is not a bolt in. I've seen the TC swapped into an X, but never the other way 'round. You'd be better off to fix the Spider motor and sell off the X pieces. Those FI motors and trans are fairly desireable for X owners

sheesh 1967, no no , 1976 typo

anyway, I got some more time to check the frame pretty much intact along the bottom, but where it sweeps up into the front bolt flange is shot, floor is pretty much shot also, I have the welding experience and equipment to go at it but theres a limit as to how much you can do without tearing it down to the frame and doing it correctly, and may end up with a pile of dust. then theres always keep going till you find metal to join too, coastal Rhode Island is bad, salt air tears them up. time/labor, I may be better off looking till I find something more worth the effort. the engine shows good promise as it has good compression, I will get some numbers to be sure. I will have the ignition parts in hand tomorrow and see if I can get her to run. rust never sleeps!!!
