exhaust advice needed

Post by JohnD »

Hi
I have a performance header on my 71 1608 spider. I am having a hard time finding replacement crushable gaskets. Does anyone have experience with this problem? After replacing my transmission I put the exhaust system back together using the original gaskets. I have a slight leak. Is there something I can use seal the leak or do you recommend that I get new gaskets. Any suggestions for a source?

Thanks,

John

In my opinion you should always use new gaskets. They are typically only a few bucks. You should be able to use a regular exhaust gasket at the block. Do you happen to know what brand of header you have? (IAP, Vick's, etc.). If one of the regular vendors doesn't have the exhaust gasket in stock try Summit Racing or JEGS.

Been going crazy trying to find some. I bought the header from kam specialists in 1998. Sold as an abarth style header. I will post a pic. Thanks for the vendor names.

Does it use round doughnuts between the upper and lower halves?
You should be able to get those at any auto parts store.

Hi
Yes it does use doughnuts (2) it connects the header to a short pipe that connects to the rest of the exhaust. I have examining the local parts stones inventory. Not even finding a close match. Gonna keep trying. The nice thing is I can disconnect the exhaust in my sleep. I am going to give danny at fun imported auto tomorrow. Great shop with tons of parts. I was there about a month ago cause he rebuilt my transmission.
