see if this helps: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26031

Working from memory......the retaining ring on the bearings fit against the outside of the case. Is this the info you want? I'll check my notes to see if I have more information for you.

As pictures say more than words, i took some pictures.

Does it matter in wich direction i install de inner race on the shaft?

I can't find where these 2 go in the manual (and i don't remember  )

In wich direction do the 2 washer need to be installed (big diameter facing the .. side)?

My FIAT manual shows:
1) On the input shaft assembly: snap ring - spring washer - bearing ; sliding onto the input end.
2) On the main shaft: snap ring - spring washer - shift hub ; sliding onto the interior end next to 3rd gear.

It doesn't specify the orientations of the bearing races.

Thanks Wizard it stared me right in the face and I didn't see it. But all is not well in transmission land because the one on the 3 speed gear was already on. I'm stil missing one position to put a washer on.

There is a spring washer that fits between the bell housing and tranny case on the input shaft.

thanks wizzard,

The washer on the belhousing is much larger in diameter, i found some scratching between the mainschaft bearing and the reverse gear that could be from the washer but id like to have confermation on this.

How many washer do u have in your transmission?

Problem solved.

In the transmission "workbook" the talk about 2 spacers one on the aux shaft and one on the mainshaft. the one on the aux shaft is the ring that's part of the inner race of the aux shaft bearing. the bearing on the mainshaft does not have a two part inner race and by spacer they main the washer as discibed above.
