I see this is a common issue. I was wondering if someone had any pics of how they fixed it? Just looking for some ideas. I am going to fix it myself. I have seen a couple posts, but nothing with the final fix.
Thanks.

Re: '77 firewall cracked from clutch
I drilled a hole in an old motorcycle tire iron, and siliconed it to the firewall.

Re: '77 firewall cracked from clutch
Take the brake booster and MC out/off.
I had a parts car and cut the same piece from the fire wall. A piece of sheet steel a couple of mm thick with the hole cut out would work. I then pop riveted it into position over the straightened cracked fire wall. Then with a WET rag below and on the inside, I welded the covering piece to the fire wall.
Worked great. took about 3-4 hours to do.

Re: '77 firewall cracked from clutch
I since had it repaired correctly. That was about 20 years ago. And I had no other car at the time, so had to improvise one night.divace73 wrote:I'd like to see that.bobplyler wrote:I drilled a hole in an old motorcycle tire iron, and siliconed it to the firewall.

If you are concerned about heat damage, you may want to epoxy the new plate to the firewall.
