New York mechanic

Post by ddonatelli »

I am having some issues with low brake pedal on my 79 Spider. I need the name of a good mechanic in the New York metro area. My local guys do not seem up to the task. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Where are you?

I can recommend a great shop in White Plains, but they weren't up to task of the similar problem in my '78.

While I haven't yet done it myself, the fix appears to be a rigorous bench-bleed of the master cylinder.

Four, yes four, different shops didn't find the solution, oft mentioned here, including the masters who saved my chassis and the self-described oldest FIAT dealer in NY.

Ciao,
Mark

Try Mitchell's Auto Repair in Brooklyn near Prospect Park.

(718) 854-8074 main

He's got several 124's of his own and knows the car pretty well. Shop is quaint in size so prepare to leave it for a few days while repairs are effected.

I would believe he could fix your problem.

Tell him Gabriel sent you if you make it there.

I'm not sure where you are located in NY, but I can highly recommend the Alfa Import Center in Woodside, Queens. Guiseppe, aka Alfa Joe, is a great guy and a great mechanic that specializes in Alfa's, but knows and works on Fiats as well. He sorted out my 124 when I first bought it and he has become my trusted mechanic for the car since, which is running just beautiful these days.

I hang out there with other Italian car owners on Saturday morning's when I can.

Here's the web site - http://alfaimportcenter.com

Well, when I met Joe some 13 years ago, he was located in Brooklyn, and that's where I brought my Spider when I first bought it. He immediately made me feel comfortable and we became friendly, something that doesn't often happen when finding a mechanic. But then he moved to NC and brought the business down there. The Italian car community up here really missed him when he left. He really was a big part of the Italian car scene up here, as you know. Well, though the business down in NC was doing well, he has decided to come back to NYC and is now located in Woodside Queens. I stumbled upon his new shop strictly by accident when I was going out to dinner. You can imagine my surprise when I found that shop!

Happy days for me and a lot of Italian car lovers!
