Column Switch for a 1969
Column Switch for a 1969
Hey Guys, so the column switch levers are broken on my 1969 im restoring. Everywhere i look, all i find is column switches for 1973 and above. Im wondering if anyone knows where to purchase one for the earlier years or if there is a modification i can do to a 73+ as im assuming its to do with the wiring harness. Cheers

The difference is that the 69-72 have a 3 position column switch for the lights, and a 2 position toggle on the dash.
Late 72-on the dash switch is 3 position, and the lever on the column is 2 position.
You can use the newer column switch if you also use the later light switch and convert the wiring to reflect that of the newer cars. I've done this on a '70 Spider, but I do not remember exactly what I did, only that I poured over the 2 wiring diagrams for a while. From what I remember they key was tat the later 3 position toggle switch has 2 power inputs, and once I figured that out everything worked.
We had an early column switch in stock for a while, but I think it sold last year.

Thanks for solving a mystery. I think in Europe they switched earlier, as when I was asking for advice here on the column switch on my 71, everyone was talking about a 3-position column switch, which mine didn't have.vandor wrote:The difference is that the 69-72 have a 3 position column switch for the lights, and a 2 position toggle on the dash.

Well, as it turns out, mine did have a three-position column switch. Up was for low beams, down was for high beams, and somewhere in the middle was no-man's land where there is a small frazzle noise, a whiff of smoke, and absolute no lights just as you've pulled out to overtake.
You can guess how I knew that one...
