I'm rebuilding the rear brake calipers on my 79 spider, got one done and ran into a problem on the second one.
I had a c- clamp on the caliper compressing the plunger and spring washers.I then placed the pawl in the slot on
the head of the plunger, reached for the handbrake cam lever at which point the c-clamp slipped off and launched the pawl somewhere in the garage . Does anyone happen to have a spare one or know where I could locate one.I
haven't been able to locate one through the normal venders.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Bob

Re: rear brake caliper rebuild problem
I don't have a spare part.
I read somewhere that grinding the edge of the "C"clamp so it square makes it a little more stable.
I know this thought is too late but might help in the future

Re: rear brake caliper rebuild problem
Thanks for the reply.I did have it ground narrower and flattened the end ,I just didn't have it on straight enough
and I might have had it a little tighter than it needed to be. An extra set of hands would help a lot.

Re: rear brake caliper rebuild problem
I've polish metal and the buffing wheel in the drill press constantly grabs stuff and hurls it into the wall and bounces someplace else. Believe it or not, I always find the part.
Where ever it tumbled to, it's still in the garage. Get a good light and start moving stuff around. you'll find it. Sorry I don't have one.

Re: rear brake caliper rebuild problem
I think the Fiat repair manual should include a list of Italian curse words on this section. Rear caliper rebuilds are possibly the least fun job on the car. well done.
