rear brake caliper bushing

Post by rrs »

Has anyone had any luck replacing the bushings for the emergency brake lever shaft of the rear calipers? I am rebuilding the rear calipers on my '79 and on of the bushings is toast. Seems like a long shot trying to source one but hoping someone has found a replacement that works - otherwise, anyone selling a rebuildable rear left caliper or at least the body of one? I don't want to dish out $95 for a rebuilt one just because of a $.30 bushing.

I found them on the C. Obert&Co site under rear brake components...$16 dollars per...very expensive and made of brass unlike the original steel races, the new ones are very soft. I was able to get the new one installed however I was not carefully enough and damaged the lip a little, it still works however I cannot get the snap ring seated.

A machinist may have a better solution or replacement race of higher quality.
