Fuel Delivery

So a little bit of background: Awhile back I had sucked a bunch of rust from my gas tank thorough all my fuel lines until it clogged a filter just before my carb. At the time I didn't have a filter between my tank and fuel pump. I replaced the filter and had my tank recoated and spliced another filter in between the tank and fuel pump. I managed to drive for about 20 minutes and the engine died again. The filters were clean, but empty and I had quite a bit of gas in the tank and could hear my fuel pump running. I replaced the fuel pump and managed to drive the rest of the way home. I am just nervous to drive very far. Did something fail inside my fuel pump just as a result of the previous rust issue? Should I be good now? Thank you

Maybe theres sediment in the carb jets

Well I have one of those clear inline fuel filters a few inches before my carb and I wasn't getting any fuel to that.

Coating plug the exit line?

I don't believe so. I was able to suck gas up to the pump by mouth when trying to reprime the fuel pump.

Nothing worse for an electric pump that rust and grit. If you were running unfiltered rust and grit thru pump, it is a gonner. So from what I gather it failed?? And you replaced it, and put a filter before it?? You should be fine. What pump?? Folks have a bad habit of putting in absolute junky pumps ( which is what the junky parts stores will try to sell you). Is this pump something somebody buggered in?? Are you sure when pump "failed" you were getting power and ground to pump??

If the filter before the pump was empty, i suspect the vent system. No air coming in.

This is pretty much exactly it. It was a cheap generic pump that sucked in rust. I ran to the parts store and put another generic pump in just to get home and I also spliced in another filter before the pump. When it failed I could hear and feel it running but I also cleaned up the ground when putting in the new pump just in case.


I replaced the vent lines as well but I will double check and make sure they are clear just in case.
