I cry for you poor "hard done by" guys over the pond! Here in Spain, the majority of cars are diesel - and I'm not talking of the old "oilers" of yesteryear. Todays cars are fast, smooth and incredebly efficient (my BMW 525TDS will cruise all day at 80mph and return 46 miles to the gallon). At todays exchange rate, a gallon of diesel is $8.73 with unleaded gas being slightly cheaper. OUCH!!!

I heard about those diesels that are being produced overseas. My husband Ron went to Portugal for a few weeks to work a PGA tournament and said he didn't even realize he was driving a diesel until it was time to fill it up. He was especially impressed with the power and quietness of the engine. I don't know why we're still dealing with the clackety-clack stinky things we have over here.

Speaking of amazing diesels. has anyone seen the new Audi Q7 TDI? the v12 version that pumps something like 500hp and 700+tq and still gets 20+ mpg

I hear it's coming out later this year in the US

The neighbors and I have been throwing around the idea of buying a horse and wagon, piling up in the wagon once a week to go to town for supplies and forgetting about driving cars. I wish that mule I have was a four legged animal instead of a four wheel drive. The kids are banned from driving it with gas so high.

It's starting to sound like the Amish are WAY ahead of their time. We'd go broke out here buying feed and alfalfa for a horse, would yours be able to free feed in a field Denise?

Yep Mark, but it doesn't feed on hay:

Ron, I have a nice field I've been mowing that the kids have made into a "track" for the mule. I was thinking more in line of letting the horse roam my 3 acre yard so I wouldn't have to cut the grass.
