When I crank (manual) the door windows on both sides, I get treated to a creaking and howling noise which is quite loud. The mechanism seems a bit stiff (I'm going on 30 year old memories from my 71 coupe), but the windows do raise and lower without binding or stopping. Already have the door cards off. Any recommendations on lube/grease points on the cables/pulleys?
Also....did the 71/72's have the fiber optic tubes running to the heater controls? I've seen no sign of anything like that.....

Re: Noisy windows
With the noise you describe, it may be that the cable on the regulator is fraying.
Is there a spot in the winding of the windows that has a crunchy sound or feel?
If so go to Auto Ricambi and get a couple regulators. Best to change them out, if they need it, before the cables break.

Re: Noisy windows
On the optics, I am uncertain as to the cutover year but early Spiders, I think all AS and BS, had a solid chrome heater control cover with no lights.njoconnor wrote:When I crank (manual) the door windows on both sides, I get treated to a creaking and howling noise which is quite loud. Re: Noisy windows
you can buy lithium grease in a spray can. WD 40 won't stay long. It evaporates, and runs off also. the lithium grease is what the
parts were lubed with from the factory. do it once every 20 years.

Re: Noisy windows
It depends if it is the regulator/cables or the window glass in the run. On Honda's when the little fuzzy stuff wears off of the window run, the window doesn't slide anymore and wants to stick to the rubber. It makes the windows slow and noisy. Honda sells a thick silicone paste that works like a champ.

Re: Noisy windows
all the plastic cable pulleys can wear badly on the axle holes and bind up in all sorts of ways or throw the cable off so it is not even running in a pulley slot. All the cable mechanism is on the inside of the glass. Take off the interior door panel, grab the wifey's make-up mirror and a flashlight and see what you've got.
