Got a down draft weber. seems to smell of fuel and wondering what I can do to get the best power and fuel consumption out of it. Ideas? Weber downdraft bought new about 3 years ago. Don't drive the car much, but when I do, I'm dis appointed in fuel consumption. It's got good power, but could have more.

28/32 ADHA? The model type is important here, but I think the only Weber 28/32 that will fit a Spider is the ADHA. It isn't much of a performance carburetor, so if you're looking for some more power you need to consider a larger and better Weber, with a mechanical secondary.

The fuel smell could be from a dirty/clogged carburetor or from a leaking accelerator pump or a malfunctioning emissions control device. The ADHA was laden with emissions stuff.

I believe it was a late nite and I mis wrote my carb. It must be a 32-36. I had the stock I think 28 32 on my 79 and bought this new 32 36 as a recommended upgrade with the 1800 intake. No pollution stuff, and electric fuel pump. It does have an electric choke which may be the cause of the flooding situation I've mentioned. Since reading just a bit of your work on carbs, I think I'll start to make my way around troubleshooting the fuel system.
Your work compilation is fantastic, and I can't wait till the weather warms and I can dig into the book and car and set it up to a finer state of tune. Thanks as one enthusiast to another.

an electric choke won't cause flooding. Flooding is usually caused by dirt in the needle and seat or a sinking float

the car runs fine, starts easily once the electric pump gets some fuel to the carb, and don't bog down per a flooding situation. I have a heavy gas smell and it seems to be too rich. Maybe I need a return from the carb to the tank w/ the electric fuel pump.
