Hello again,
Been away at work for the last couple of months with no time to play with the Spider. Just before leaving town, I had tried to replace the clutch cable. Got it in, adjusted to what felt like good pedal, but then had no clutch at all. Can't put car in gear. Arm on tranny seems to have full movement. Quit playing with it when upper end popped back out of the pedal. Had to back away before using the big hammer. Then left town.
Replaced because old cable was very 'crunchy' feeling. Could something have come loose inside bell housing? What am I missing? Thanks.

Re: Clutch cable replacement
Make sure the fork is on the pivot ball.
Screw the adjustment nut in at least 3/4 the way down the threads, had to on mine anyway, to get the throwout bearing close to the clutch. From there see how that feels and then adjust until about an inch of clutch travel before contact.

Re: Clutch cable replacement
Finally back home and able to work on the Fiat. Got the top part of the cable back into the pedal assembly. I've run the adjustment nut all the way up, and still have no clutch. Fork seems to be engaging, but nothing happens.
I did notice that I could pull the fork out or push it in about 1/2 inch- laterally, not fore & aft. Is it supposed to be all the way in or out? Ready to drive this car, not just look and cuss at it.

Re: Clutch cable replacement
The fork is classic for cracking at the pivot point. it acts like it is doing the job, but actually bends when it hit resistance. There is lateral movement as the far end of the fork slides off the ball knob.

Re: Clutch cable replacement
i think the fork also just sits on a round top bolt opposite the shaft (part 7) - if the fork isn't on the bolt, it probably won't work. is the fork sticking straight out of the side of the trans? or is it coming out at an angle?

Re: Clutch cable replacement
The firewall isn't cracked, is it?
It's a common problem on these cars, where the clutch cable goes through the firewall.
Many have been repaired, including mine.
I didn't notice the repair panel until I replaced my engine and I was really looking closely in my engine bay.
The previous owner had put a reinforcement plate on the cracked portion of the firewall.

I didn't take note of the year of the post.
Yes, let's hope he got it fixed and didn't send it to the crusher!
