I know this is a long shot, but maybe someone out there has some information or can help me find a car I owned in 1973, 74.
In 1973 I bought a used 1970 to 72 Fiat 124 Spider in Fullerton, California It was the first car that I ever owned and I think I was the 2nd owner of the car. It was red with black interior and was absolutely my favorite most enjoyable handling car I have ever owned. I was recently thinking about getting another 124 Spider or possibly finding the original – probably a long shot, because I no longer have the VIN or even the old license number. Does anybody have any ideas about retrieving records from that period to locate a previously owned car or have any information that can lead to any information about this car. Itâ€s nice to see others that appreciate and enjoy these cars as much as I did. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Manfred Nagel

Well, thanks for the compliment, Denise!! But, I was born 15 years before my red '70 spider. Mine is a southern CA '70, red with black interior. I bought it from Ken Murray in 86 or 87, after it sat for 5 years in his garage. Before that, it belonged to Robert Roberts. Yep, that is his real name. I don't know if Bob was the original owner or not. He was driving it in 1980 or 81, when I first met him, but the car was ten years old then, so I suppose that it is possible that someone else owned it before then.
Everywhere that Bob drove this car, it had a big cloud of white smoke behind it, and I think I know why. When I bought the car and took it home, one of the first things I did was change the oil, among a lot of other things. The oil overflowed my drain pan, so I scurried to get the plug back in place, emptied my oil pan, and went back to draining the engine oil again. It filled up the drain pan again!! I'm estimating that it had over 10 quarts of oil it it!!! Don't really know why that would make it smoke, but maybe there was a connection.
