Dear Fiat enthusiasts,
My name is David Huybrechts and I live in Belgium with my wife and three sons (8,6 & 3). Last year I restored a 1971 Fiat 500L wich we enjoy very much. Since this was a fairly simple restoration we wanted to do one more but this time we went for a 1979 Fiat 124 Spider. We decides to go for a complete restoration and completely dismantled the car, removed all paint, welded the floorpans, doors, side panels, etc...Put on several layers of epoxy primer, primer and paint (original Fiat silver) Then rebuild the engine with new parts, changed all suspension parts and put in a new interior (black leather) By now we are almost finished....(spring is in the air !) We are just waiting for the last parts (pre 1973 bumpers) and hopefully it will be ready for my 40th birthday (next week)

Re: Hi from Belgium !
Wow! What a job!
Are you in the auto/truck business? I am envious of all the space you have available for this project. My metalwork has now moved to outside; Spring is indeed in the air. We had film of the F/W and L-B-L on the TV last week ... looks like you've been having a bit of rain.
I can't wait to see the finished car; please share with us your progress. Joyeux Anniversaire!

Re: Hi from Belgium !
welcome to the forum! Great project you've undertaken. What carburetor does the 79 have in Europe?
Re: Hi from Belgium !
This actually is a US re-import car. Go figure : produced in Italy, imported in the US then shipped to the UK were I bought it and then to Belgium (but restored in The Netherlands !)So Cal Mark wrote:welcome to the forum! Great project you've undertaken. What carburetor does the 79 have in Europe?
Engine was US-spec with a lot of extra environmental extra's which now all have been removed and the US 28-32ADHA carburator swopped for a brand new Weber Euro spec carburator and exhaust system.

Welcome to the forum David. Wow, you are going all the way with your '79! Looks like it will be virtually a new car when you get done.
Very nice job.
Thanks for the pictures.
