So last night we held a "Trunk Or Treat" event at our church in Stoughton and we all had a great time and so did the neighborhood kids! We decorate the trunks and hand out candy to the kids, who can come around and visit many different families in a small safe area. It is great for the really young ones. We had about 15 cars and maybe a couple hundred people turned out. Seemed appropriate to take the Spider.
This is likely the last car event of the season for me, now to start some repair and upgrade projects and find winter storage.

It is catching on with quite a few churches in our area, and I saw signs for at least 4 different ones in various towns. (It is sad but true that we must wage a secular battle for the survival of Christianity in the US). The primary reason for our event was not fear of crime, or traffic safety, although they are great benefits of the format, but to have a fun, community service event that lets people know where we (our church family) is, what we do, and that we welcome everyone to join us!

somebody mentioned something to me the other day about trunk or treat events. he said we are grooming our children to be comfortable walking up to a strangers trunk of his vehicle for candy! this world is truly going to hell in a parts bucket if we have to start putting so much thought into every move we make. I wish I could have been born in the era of American Graffiti. even if I was Toad. those were simpler times then!

my wife and i took our boys (age 5 and 7) trick or treating on halloween from 5:30pm to 7pm. most houses asked us to take handfuls of candy because we were the only ones they saw. we saw a total of two other parents taking their kids. maybe we went out too early? nope. not a single knock on our door all night. not what i expected the year after Sandy all but ruined halloween. apparently we missed the memo to stay indoors.
we had Severe storms and tornado warnings in our area for Halloween night. we live in the Chattanooga, TN area. we had a trick or bunker kind of night!
p.s still better than snow!
I sat in my neighbors front yard with four other neighbor handing out candy. We had maybe 60-70 kids come through. Some were teenagers with no costume, tho....

We get at least 200 kids every year. All the neighbors warned us when we moved in that we need to have a LOT of candy on hand. We were skeptical until that first Halloween. HA! They were right. My neighborhood in Foxboro is known for its Halloween decorations, etc and is located near the center of town, so people bring their kids in from all over. We have a great time and it is quite a tradition here. (But the Trunk or Treat we held was in Stoughton, nearby).
