Folks, I have read where the #2 and #4 bolt (relative to spark plug position) on the exhaust manifold have an oil passage behind them. Looking at the car last week I noticed a small amount of oil dripping down the passanger side but could not figure out where it was coming from. Last night after a drive I took a flashlight and mirror to the car and spotted what looked to be oil dripping through the bolt thread on the #2 bolt. had to be the source because there is nothing above that that could have driped onto that spot. I retorqued the nut to just under 20 pounds (I know the book says 18). If this does not work, is this where folks use a high temp teflon tape to stop the oil from leaking? Really odd place for an oil leak and i cant recall seeing teflon tape pieces on the engines I've looked at.
Thoughts?

Double nut and remove the stud. Apply thread sealant and re-install.
The two mentioned studs are open to the inside of the cam tower and oil from there will/can ooze down the stud.

tightening the nut won't help, it's the stud that needs to be tightened in the head

You use two nuts on the stud and torque them against each other with two wrenches. Than you can get the stud out by using a wrench on the nut close to the head and the other nut to get the stud back in again. Then get the nuts off by using two wrenches again.

This may have been the easiest fix to date. Double nut to take stud off. Clean, apply a little high temp thread sealer. double nut and torque stud and then torque bolt. No need to take manifold of or mess with coolant. It would be vreat if all leaks and repairs were this easy.

A while back, I had to replace the exhaust manifold due to a broken O2 sensor. As I was torquing the manifold, I felt the #2 stud give. I quit tightening at that point. I doubt I had the 18 ft.lbs on it.
I have discovered an exhaust leak in this area and a smoking oil smell and smoke. I don't know if the stud is stripped in the head or nearly broken off due to corrosion/fatigue.
My thought (when I deal with this in the coming weeks), if the stud is stripped, is to use a high temp/strength epoxy to set the stud back into the head. If the oil is seeping through, will this work? Tell me how you re-set the stud??? What product worked for you/

I was fortunate that the stud was lose but was not stript in the block. Therefore, I simply purchased a grade A steel stud, M8 X 1.25 X 45MM. The stud only needed to be 40MM but I wanted a little more bolt to work with in the event the fix did not take. I then used a high temp (400 degree) thred sealeant to ensure oil would not work its way down the thred of the stud. I guess you could use a heli coil if the inside of the block is stript. No sure if i would go that route or retap.

helicoil, but! you must seal the helocoil and the stud, i would use a generous amount of "pst" from permatex, its a liquid / paste pipe sealant. that way your helicoil wont leak either
