Hello to everyone.
there is no trace on when this job has been done and I'm not skilled enough for this kind of job ( I'm more electric ), so I decided that is better do it. I have the car since 3 weeks with 94K miles even if I found a very old sticker in the hood said belt done in June 2012 at 194K miles !!!!!!
I don't know how the miles from the engine disappear in the odometer but I would prefer do the job and start from zero.
I think it will be also good to check the valve, isn't ?
Any suggestion for a prepared and honest mechanic in houston ?
thank you

To be honest, if you can figure electrical out(I have a difficult time) you can swap a belt and water pump if it is pooched.
A few metric wrenches and a long screwdriver and you should be good to go. (and a timing light)A big BUT here though... if you still have the thin metal shrouds behind the timing belt, (many are binned after the first timing belt change) it gets a bit more complicated as you end up taking the crank nut and pulley off to get at the 10mm bolt tucked in behind it.
A reputable mechanic that is comfortable In these old school cars is a great help as well.

I don't know about US cars, but my 131 has 5 digits on the odometer, it clocks over at 100,000kms. So unless you have a good paper history, there's no way to tell if it's done 100 or 200 or 300,000. If I don't know the recent history of an engine, the cam belt is always my first place to start.Piccola wrote:I don't know how the miles from the engine disappear in the odometer

I don't know about Houston but I am 4 hrs north and have at least two in the area. You should be able to easily find a few good machanics. There is a club based out of Houston that should be able to help. I'll see what I can do tomorrow and get back with you.
