It is. I'm not sure if that was stock or put in by the PO, but it was there when I disassembled the car, so it got cleaned up, painted and put back.

I am pretty sure not stock. Thought it might be an inertial switch, which I STILL have not gotten around to installing.

1974 spiders had a electric fuel pump mounted in that location from the factory.

Thanks Beek. Always new things to learn about these cars. Although they look consistent, there were a lot of changes over the years.

having dismantled well over 1000 fiats in my life i have seen a few things

The reinstallation of the engine is proceeding steadily, although slowly. For anyone who hasn't done this before - take about 10 times as many pictures as you think you'll need!
So having taken 1/10 as many pictures as it turns out I need, some questions are coming up. As a 74 it falls into the holes between the early manuals and the later ones - so the lack of pictures is more painful. Today's question:
I have a DMSA carb that I installed today. Got the fuel lines hooked up, but there are two nipples coming off the carb that I have no idea where they go. One (the one in the back near the firewall) may not have been hooked up before (by my inconclusive pictures!). The other (in the front) had a hose attached, but the only picture I have has the other end disconnected. Any help on what these get connected to would be appreciated. With any luck the inaugeral fire up of the engine will be next week!

The hose that points forward is for the bowl vent and goes to the vapor canister. When the canister is removed then this usually gets connected to the metal vapor line going back to the tank.

Thanks Csaba,
After reading your post I went and took a closer look and found a 3rd metal line with the remnants of a hose attached with a bolt in it under the other fuel lines. I'll check out the path to the tank - but that may solve mystery number 1.
Anybody have insight into the other connection?

the nipple that points to the firewall connects to the 'electromagnetic fast idle solenoid' that mounts on drivers side of engine bay. from there a hose runs down to the intake manifold for vacuum supply. this solenoid serves a a simple way to bump up the idle to about 1500 rpm (probably for emission purposes). wish i had a pic, but i removed mine some time ago. didn't seem to hurt to either leave open or cap. hope this helps. ron. i might also add that '74's are most definitely the best year spiders to have and please keep up the good work on the car and posting on the forum.

@aj81spider - Nice works man! I wonder, did You painted, or polished the brake booster? These days I am working on mine, but I was afraid that brake fluid could damage the paint if spilled on it, from the brake fluid tank) ...

Thanks rja - I don't have the solenoid, so I'll leave that nipple disconnected.
Thanks for the compliment braca. I painted the booster, then clear coated it. I'm hoping I can keep the brake fluid off it. I figure if brake fluid hits the booster it will be hitting paint on the interior of the engine bay as well so I'll have many problems. I'll let you know how that theory works if I ever get this finished!

Mine had the well concealed pencil in the hose to fast idle solenoid. The open nipple facing the front of the car is just capped.
