Another Identification Question

Post by aj81spider »

As I plan the re-installation of my engine into the car I'm left with a few items I'm not sure of. I've been searching and can't find what this (the thing behind the carburetor mount) is.

It frankly looks broken (one of the two ears on top), so I may even need to replace it. Any guidance would be appreciated.

As long as you don't need to be concerned with emissions testing,it can be plugged.

I did a little more research and have a question. Is it true that there is a cooling passage to the valve?

If that's true then do I need a minimum length plug?

I plugged mine with no problem.
No, there is nothing to worry about.
The thread depth is not very much.
Pull yours out and you will see.
It is either a 16mm 1.5 pitch or 18mm 1.5 pitch (I forget).
You can get oil pan plugs at most auto parts stores in both sizes.
I used teflon tape just to be sure there were no leaks.
Good luck.

Yes, there is coolant below the valve.

>If that's true then do I need a minimum length plug?

It does not matter, I don't think the plug will thread in more than a few turns.
