The idle stop solenoid has a pin that blocks the fuel to the idle jet, when you turn the ignition off the solenoid is de-energised and the engine stops instantly, no chance of running on. Without power to it, the engine will only run on the main circuit as there is no fuel supplied to the idle circuit. I really don't know why Fiat bothered with it, there are fittings available that the idle jet goes in that does away with the solenoid.

The same seller has fittings to convert to an electric choke, not cheap though.

I am not sure if this applies. I have the 32 ADFA carb. There is an ICU solenoid, but I believe that is for when the engine is warm to cut out the choke. I tested it and confirmed 12v. I'll start from scratch trying to set the carb and see if that has any help. For some reason, I still can't locate the end for the hose on the top of the fuel canister.

On a different topic, I had been driving the car around (fun!!) and out of the blue the engine dies. I had the fuel applied, not sputtering or hesitation. It seems like it lost detonation. The temperature was barely about 120. Eventually it started back up after a couple of turn over attempts and ran like nothing ever happened. I am wondering if either the coil or the distributor are grounding out? After thinking about it a little, when I was try to first get the car started and I was rotating the distributor the align the rotor with the contacts I was shocked. Pretty hard to, felt like I got punched in the shoulder. Any one got suggestions?

No so, '131' is correct in his description of the solenoid's function.
