I have had a few instances where it seemed that the thermostat was sticking, so I thought I'd replace the in-head thermostat on my 73 1592. It's a simple Stant American style part number according to all the info I could find. However, upon removing the housing, I found that the thermostat is built in to the housing and is obviously meant to be serviced by replacing the heat engine, spring, and brass bridge, which crimps into position on the aluminum casting. I have not seen spares like this available anywhere. Has anyone found replacements for these? I thought about cutting up the Stant but its heat engine was too big in diameter to fit the bridge.
Thanks,
Brian

I haven't seen one of those on a car for a long time, but it's original and to my knowledge exact replacements have not been available for some time. However, with a little looking NOS ones can still be found - like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/231009979427

Yup! That's exactly it. Would it be original to my 73 1592? It's also pretty clear when you get into these that they were meant to be serviced by replacing the thermostat element. It would be nice to see if any of those are available. I'll keep digging...
Thanks,
Brian
