Engine Building
Engine Building
Going to start the process of building a more high performance engine for a 74 Fiat Coupe. It has a stock 1608 engine today and want to add more punch to it with a rebuild. I got a hold of an engine out of a 69 Spider, 1438 engine but I also have an opportunity to get a 1608 replacement as well. My question is this: Can I build the 1438 to outperform the 1608? If so, what to do aside from the obvious boring of the cylinders?

Re: Engine Building
Size matters....(more displacement) I found with my engine build (FI ) the most noticeable boost in performance was in the head and aftermarket cams with adjustable cam wheels and degreed in properly.

Re: Engine Building
narfire, I'm in the process of rebuilding my '80 FI. Curious how aggressive you went with your cams. I want something with more power, but want to drive it on the street and not have to make major mods to the engine. Also, what mods did you make to the head?narfire wrote:Size matters....(more displacement) I found with my engine build (FI ) the most noticeable boost in performance was in the head and aftermarket cams with adjustable cam wheels and degreed in properly.
