2.0 Liter in a 1969-1972

Post by macinsac »

Been lurking for a while. I am getting close to a purchase. Will a 1980-1985 FI engine fit under a 1969-1972 (no hump) hood?

I put a flat hood on my 80 FI. Slight interference with the edge of the timing belt cover. Need some creating orientation of the dizzy so the wires dont get pinched on the hood. I fixed the first by notching the center brace on the hood and the 2nd by going to a dizziless ignition.

I notched my TB cover. No way I'm notching a flat hood! :-)

I had a '70 Spider with a small bump hood that had a FI 2 liter in it, and it fit, but I had lowered the engine mounts some.

2.0 engine taller and significantly heavier.
Prepare for more wear on front suspension. Flat hood will not close properly.

Thanks for the information. I guess I won't be going that route.
